Easy, Bright Art {Using Packaging Tape!}

Several weeks ago I showed you my cheery Back Porch Makeover (yes, I'm still talking about that). And, last week I shared the so-simple tutorial for my Recycled, Hanging Glass Vases.

Which leads me to today. Today I'm sharing the easy-as-can-be tutorial for, what I shall henceforth refer to as, Packaging Tape Art.

Catchy, eh?

It all started when I spotted this fun, yellow packaging tape at Joann's Fabric. I snatched it up with nary a plan for it's use.

(All that junk by the checkout line? Yep, I'm their target audience.)

I paired the packaging tape with an old canvas I'd previously snatched up on another impulse buy.

(Hey, would you pass up a $0.99 canvas print that could so-very-easily be spray-painted white and revitalized with...packaging tape??)

(I didn't think so.)

To complete this art project:
1) buy impulsively
1) start with a blank canvas (either purchased that way or spray-painted that way)
2) create random stripes by placing decorative packaging tape at varying widths apart
3) use tiny stamps to write a short-but-sweet sentiment
4) display. step back. admire. move on.

My canvas says "come on get happy" because that's the first thing that popped in my head after I saw the delicious, yellow, paisley stripes.

I'm happy, indeed!

In case you haven't figured it all out, I also used the tape to add random lines on a white, melamine plate for my wall decor. And, the best part? I have a heckuva lot more tape to play with.

Whatever will I do with it next??

  2. I'm lovin' that packaging tape! So super cute!

  3. Love this idea! So simple. I'm going to get my hands on some of this tape today. Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. You're so clever Emily! I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets sucked into spending several more dollars at the checkout line!! I keep saying I need more Yellow in my decor. This would be an easy way to get some. Thanks for sharing it with us!

  5. Emily, cute idea!
I would LOVE for you to come link this up at my linky party "Cowgirl Up!", going on right now. Link up once, appear on 4 blogs.

  6. Gotta love when you find fun uses for impulse buys! For me, it lessens the guilt :-)

  7. Another great idea Emily!! I saw some cute chevron packing tape and Target and thought... hmmm what could I do with it? I didn't get any {cuz I was buying so much washi tape!} but now I just might have to go back. You know I'm at Target at least 3 times a week :)

  8. Awesome! I saw someone making bows with the decorative packaging tape at a garage sale once!
They were so cute...It's so versatile! Then again...EVERYTHING is! :)

  9. Ha! I just bought pink polka dot packing tape from target on an impulse!

  10. So creative! The tape is bright and happy and looks great on your porch. I also love the cake stand holding the potted plant. Fantastic idea.

  11. Ugh.. those dollar bins at Joanns get me EVERY TIME! And at target. Ha! What a great product.. I love it!

  12. Simple, easy and SO clever, pretty, and fun!! Oh, just like me, isn't that interesting? (ha. kidding) Really, I love the idea and intend to copy you in some way! thanks!

  13. I can't believe that's packing tape! I just got back from Joann's. I'm totally bummed I read this post after I got back!

  14. I saw the pink packing tape at JoAnn's yesterday. I loved it! I didn't get it (mostly because I got the $1 ribbon embellishments & other things I 'needed'), but it is on my list!

  15. I enjoy all of your projects. But I ESPECIALLY like ones I know I can replicate. Put tape on stuff? Yup. I think I can handle that. LOVE it! It looks amazing.

  16. Emily, this is absolutrly precious! I just love the yellow!! I ahve seen all this packing tape and thought ...wow..pretty...but never would have thought to use it this way! Super!

  17. I saw the colored packaging tape recently and wondered what I'd do with it... now I'm wishing I'd bought it already, but I didn't give in to my impulse and realize I should have! I'm still learning!!

Also, CONGRATS on winning American Crafter!! Just went back and looked today. So happy for you!

  18. You are no joke! This is unreal! Beautiful!

  19. Well isn't that THE perfect color for your porch!? And I love me some paisley =)
    ROCKING girl~Totally rocking!

  20. How cute and inventive. I haven't seen that tape at our Jo-Ann's.
Uh, I'd like to know how come I read about all the bargains you bloggers find at Target, Jo-anns, etc. but when I go to look for this stuff our stores don't have it? Maybe I should stage a protest. Doggone it. I need better bargains. Maybe it's because I don't get to go to these places often enough and by the time I do all the bargains have been snagged by bloggers like yourselves? Watch out bargain hunting bloggers in Grand Junction, CO here I come, do or fight for them. We live out about 15 miles from G.J. and with gas what it is now our budget just doesn't leave any disposable income. (what disposable income?)
    What a concept, disposable income.

  21. By the way did you make that gorgeous necklace you have on in your picture? It's so pretty. If you did would you have a tutorial on how you made it?

  22. Wow, what a great idea. I'm going to be checking out the dollar bins from now on.

  23. What an awesome idea!! I love the colors! Thanks so much for sharing this as well at Thursday's Temptation.

  24. Oh how unique! Such a great idea and I love the pretty yellow color.

  25. So cool and lovely! I saw some tape at Target and thought it cool!
Thanks for sharing at Show & Share...featuring this in tomorrow's party!

  26. Emily, Thanks so much for showing an absolutely beautiful use for our Yellow Paisley Tape! It is an old vintage fabric inspired design. FancyThat! is a woman owned company in San Diego and we are thrilled to see what people do with our designs!Love it!

  34. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful piece of information. The above information is directly relevant to Oil Packaging Boxes that will help the buyers learn more about packaging options. Your thinking is quite impressive while talking about packaging options. However, I think that the buyers lack in information.
