4th of July is right around the corner! What a great excuse to get crafty, don't you think?? Red, white and blue just feels like Summer to me. So, when I was invited to participate in a Red, White & Blue round-up with 100+ creative bloggers? Of course I said heck yeah!
Scroll to the bottom to get my tutorial for this quick and inexpensive DIY patriotic welcome mat. And, then go visit some of the other fun tutorials and recipes below!
DIY Painted Welcome MatSupplies:
*indoor/outdoor, multi-surface craft paint in red, blue and aqua (I used Martha Stewart brand)
*stencil paint brushes
*inexpensive, plain welcome mat
I started this project with a $2 welcome mat from Family Dollar. Can't get much cheaper than that! I added some supplies I had in my stash. And, ended up with a (very) inexpensive welcome mat. And, my little helper got to get her hands in some paint, too. So it was a win-win for us!
1) Gather your supplies.
2) Use foam stars as stencils. Place a star on the mat and then dab paint around the border of star. Remove stencil and fill in star with paint. Use stencil brush to push paint deep into the rug fibers.
3) Repeat, alternating colors, until desired look is achieved.
4) Let rug dry completely before placing outside.
As you can see in the collage above, I let my helper paint the foam stars when I was done with them. That totally kept her occupied and happy! :)
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my rug sneak peek last week (doesn't my daughter have the sweetest little toes?? Swoon!). We actually spent last week at my parents' house, so it was fun to have a little craft project to work on.
The pretty kelly green door is my parents' front door, in case you're wondering. Isn't it a fun color?!
I love a $2 craft project, don't you?!
