Combined Craft Room & Guest Room

I know I've given you many teasers about the details of my craft room slash guest room in the past several weeks. And, you've been very patient with me. SO, today you get the full scoop! Truth is, my first tease was over a YEAR ago with my craft room hoop art. What?? I am so slow, I know!

Since that time, I've moved furniture in and out and acquired a new sewing cabinet. And, well, I've been distracted by a million other things. You understand, right??

This room is kinda small and has to serve double duty. We do have the occasional overnight visitor, which means the space needs to be comfy enough to accommodate them. A day bed or trundle situation may have saved us some space, but I HAD to use this 100+ year old iron bed. It came from my great-grandparents' farmhouse and I LOVE it. Plus, I've been told by numerous visitors that is it UBER comfortable.

To maximize the space, I pushed it ALMOST to the wall. I hate sleeping right by walls, so I separated it from the wall with an antique sewing cabinet-turned-nightstand. Perfect, eh?!

Let's face it, craft rooms can be kinda...messy. So, I've done my best to keep everything tidy(ish) by using lots of cute storage items. It's still clutter-y, but it's at least clutter-y in a cohesive color palette. Know what I mean?

Lots of chalkboard labels were used (including my DIY contact paper labels from last week). Plus, jars,  baskets, magazine holders, buckets, flower pots and bins. Yep, I hit up several dollar spots and clearance aisles!

The white armoire is actually a sewing cabinet from my grandma. Cool, huh? It's actually really convenient! It was brown, but a simple, white paint job did the trick.

Oh, and the framed cork board tutorial can be found here!

The black and white curtains are from ikea, as are the two b/w throw pillows.

The green duvet was from Ballard Designs (about 5 year ago, alas).

The antique coverlet was purchased at a flea market.

The pink, embroidered pillowcases were handmade by a Sudanese friend when I lived in Africa.

The chair and cushion were purchased as-is at an antique store for $7 total.

You can see my tutorial for DIY chalkboard labels here and my tutorial for craft room hoop art here.

The details on my stenciled quote can be found here

And, that's that! My craft room/guest room. It's tight, but it works! :)

Happy Monday, friends!

  3. Stunning! Love the fabrics you used. I would love to have a dual purpose room but my room is even smaller! A bed would barely fit in my extra room.

  5. I love it Emily! -for lots of reasons: its a real room. It clear you made the space work for real life instead of some styled photo shoot version. It can be frustrating to see whole houses tour with absolutely no real-life stuff.

Plus, I must love it because its very similar to my little girls' room, mint wall color, same b&w window panels, white furniture.

    Great job,
    Laura

  19. Makeup Trick for beginners
Use neutral shadows to accent eyes

Natural hues — warm tones for dark eyes, cool tones for light eyes — never fail. There’s no need to do the whole contour deal. But know that a pale, shimmery shadow on lids can add sparkle to tired eyes, a medium shade in the crease and just above it can erase any fleshy overhang and make eyes appear larger, and the darkest browns and charcoals work as a smoky top coat for your gel eyeliner to soften the look or hide squiggles.
