Candy Bar Cookies

Several weeks back, my MOPS (Moms of Preschoolers) group went on Summer break. I've so enjoyed this past year and will miss seeing all my MOPS friends over the summer!!

The night before our last meeting, as I was getting ready to climb into bed, I decided that I simply HAD to make and take cookies to my MOPS Small Group. Once the idea popped into my head, I was doomed. No way I going to sleep until my mission was complete. Please tell me there's someone out there like me: impulsive, determined and sleep deprived.

I scrounged around the house (hello hubby's hidden candy stash!) until I'd come up with a perfectly decadent cookie plan.

Enter the Candy Bar Cookie. 

I started with the recipe for regular ol' Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookies...and then threw in some candy for good measure. My cookies were made with Reese's Pieces and Butterfinger Bars, but the potential candy bar combinations are endless. Truly. 

Perhaps...Plain M&Ms and Babe Ruth Bars

or Raspberry M&Ms and Mounds Bars

Maybe...Junior Mints and Three Musketeers

or Pretzel M&Ms and Snickers

Basically, my (highly scientific) formula is: 1 batch of chocolate chip cookie dough + 1 cup of candy coated chocolate + 2 regular-sized candy bars. 

Oh, this could get dangerous. 

I probably don't even need to type out this recipe, as you now have my scientific formula. And, the chocolate chip cookie recipe is printed on the bag of chocolate chips. But, hey, I'm gonna type it out anyway. Just for you. 

Candy Bar Cookies:

2- 1/4 C. All Purpose Flour

1 t. Baking Soda

1 t. Salt

1 C. Butter, softened

3/4 C. White Sugar

3/4 C. Packed Brown Sugar

1 t. Vanilla Extract

2 Large Eggs

1 C. Chocolate Chips (decreased by 1 cup from the original recipe)

1 C. Candy Coated Chocolate Pieces (Reese's Pieces, in my case)

2 Regular Sized Candy Bars, crushed (Butterfinger Bars, in my case)

Preheat oven to 375. Mix flour, salt, baking soda. In a separate bowl, beat butter, sugars and vanilla until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each egg. Slowly add in flour mixture and beat well. Fold in crushed candy bar pieces, chocolate chips and candy coated chocolates. 

Drop by rounded tablespoon onto a cookie sheet and bake for 9-11 minutes** until golden brown! 

**baking time might increase depending on the candy bar you choose. The addition of the butterfinger bars made these cookies super soft and they baked closer to 11 minutes in my oven. I can imagine that a gooey-er candy bar might even need a bit more time in the oven.

Be warned, it is highly likely that I'll recycle this post after Halloween when we all have gobs of candy sitting around. This is the perfect post-Halloween recipe!
