Color-blocked Mantel + A Poll!!

Happy Mantel Monday! Let me start by thanking you for your kind words and thoughtful emails last week! We arrived home yesterday afternoon, but (between the empty refrigerator, empty bellies, piles of laundry, empty closets) I didn't have time to fire up the computer and start thanking you all personally. If you hang in there, I will sort through my inbox eventually!

But, until then, know that your words, thoughts and prayers were uplifting and encouraging during an emotional week! Basically, you rock.

Now, onto that mantel. I've been wanting to do a color-blocked mantel for awhile now, and this week is the perfect week for such an experiment! Color-blocking is such a huge trend in fashion and home decor right now and when you change your mantel weekly, you're allowed to jump on as many trendy bandwagons as you please. I even started a pinterest board devoted to all things color-blocking. See how well I jump on bandwagons?

Details, details: I flipped my old, glass-less window over and tacked square and rectangular pieces of felt to the back. Have you seen the beautiful colors of felt available at your local fabric store?? My goodness, felt has come a long way! I added pops of bright white glass because, well, pops of bright white glass is my go-to in mantel decor. The gray and pink vase is actually two dollar tree vases, wrapped in felt and stacked. It's merely sculptural here, but I could definitely add fresh flowers, if I had 'em. (Though, I might aught to gorilla glue the two vases together first). The fabric flowers are cut from a silk scarf my grandma gave me (it was me or goodwill...and I just can't say no). Don't worry, it's not Hermes. Not even close.

Whew. Those were a lot of details. I'm positive no one read those details. But, hopefully, you'll read this next bit about the Mantel Challenge...

Today is the day you all vote on what our Mantel Challenge theme will be! Don't let the power go to your head, but you'll be deciding my mantel's fate on June 11th. My goodness, you guys came up with a random assortment of mantel "themes"! Clever folks, you. Yes, Animal House got two nominations, but I changed that slightly to be "Classic Movies". Because, I've never actually seen Animal House. And, I don't see myself heading to the RedBox any time soon. Hey, I've got a few things on my plate. You understand, right?

The poll is on my sidebar. Cast your vote and I'll announce the winning theme next Monday. Plus, I'll give you the rest of the challenge details. Next Monday should be fun!

See you tomorrow!

  10. Many people experience problems when they first buy and install their Roku digital video player.
Loading time from screen to screen can vary
and at times seems like it may take longer
than usual but overall performance is great. However, Play - On does allow developers to
make custom channels that you can load onto your server.

  11. Today, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested
to see if it can survive a thirty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed
and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had
    to share it with someone!
