Quick, No-Sew, Burlap Ornaments

I can't believe Sunday starts the one-week-to-Christmas countdown! This season has flown by, hasn't it?

Today I have another quick and easy project to show you as part of our Making a Merry Christmas series. Like every week, I'll be over at Grocery Shop For FREE today sharing this simple DIY ornament with Dian's readers!

This year my tree (oh, my poor tree) has really struggled to find it's place. Last year I used a lot of bright green and red ornaments and decoration, but this year I was lookin' for a change. Ever just want something different? I really had a hankering for something earthy and organic. Burlap, pinecones, paper flowers. You get the idea. The problem? Oh, I'm sure you can guess...money, honey! I didn't have the budget for a big overhaul. So, I've been making do. But, on Monday morning I woke up with a vision in my head for some easy burlap ornaments using supplies in my possession. I made them before I'd even had my first cup of coffee and before my daughter was awake. 

And, that, my friends, is a mommy-victory. File this project under: no caffeine needed and won't rouse sleeping child. 

Now, I'm sure your tree has been trimmed for weeks, and if every square inch of tree is covered, consider making a batch of these up as pretties for your gift packaging!

To make these ornaments, I started with a square of creamy burlap. You'll need to stack two pieces together so you get two copies of the same heart. Then, I cut these hearts out without a stencil by folding the burlap and cutting half of a heart shape. Seriously, this is the easiest way to cut out a heart from any material.

 Oh, an I used my pinking shears to help control the fray.

 

After I got the hearts cut, I used itty bitty letter stamps to stamp words on the front of the hearts. I got these tiny stamps on the dollar spot at Michaels. And, let me tell you, it was a dollar well spent.

I used my hot glue gun to attach the two hearts together, along with a piece of twine to be used as a hanger. I left an opening between the hearts and stuffed some of the burlap scraps into the space to make a pillow of sorts.
 

Then I glued the opening closed and called my quick ornaments complete.

These look so festive on a pretty package.

 

  And they look perfect on my tree.
